A reliable and trusted deputy manager who now serves as a reminder to never underestimate the sheer audacity of some people, after unnervingly walking away with £40k in cash.
This saintly assistant managed to confuse administrators after erratically depositing sums of £20k and the weekly balance later in the week. Particularly late one bank holiday, head office chased, only to be told the banking was ‘on the way.’ She then successfully bluffed head office and the General Manager into believing that a subsequent £20k banked was the original they were looking for. She attempted and almost got away with this twice!
However, Venners Consulting were called in to investigate and took immediate action with the management, after rumbling the issue. The deputy was made to open the safe…but never made it back from the toilet.
Police discovered flight tickets at the deputy’s house and although she was arrested, she skipped bail and is still on the run. It transpired that another three constabularies want the woman for the same offence!
Unfortunately multiple key safe holders confused the issue – everyone responsible, but no one accountable. The manager trusted the deputy; other key holders trusted each other; no one suspected a thing.
